The main steps that could be taken are to:

1. Appeal against your detention

If the prosecution’s request for your detention is denied, you must be released after a maximum of 72 hours.

2. Be released on bail

A deposit is made to secure your attendance at court or at the police, but apart from this, you will be able to return to your daily life. Any money deposited will be returned if you do not forfeit any of the conditions.

3. Postpone prosecution

Is evidence against you is subtle; it may be possible to send a statement to the prosecution to postpone their decision whilst you return to your daily routine temporarily.

4. Issue summary proceedings.

In many simple cases, this step would end any further obligations. However, negotiation with prosecution is crucial, and is often better with a professional attorney representing you.
